The Boys Varsity Wrestling finished 11th out of the 41 team field at the Northwest District Wrestling Championships on Saturday. Highlighting the event was Sophomore Payton Burgdorf (106) and Senior Sean Lipscomb (285)- both of which qualified for the OHSAA State Wrestling Tournament. Burgdorf captured the championship at 106 with a major decision over Ostego’s Jake Manley by a score of 13-2. Lipscomb claimed 3rd place with a quick first period pin over Lima Shawnee in the final match. Burgdorf will enter the State Tournament with a record of 43-0, and Lipscomb with a record of 47-2.
Senior Connor Eckman (113) fell just short of a State Tournament appearance finishing 2-2 on the weekend.
Seniors Garrett Tester, and Tyler Bennett both capped off nice seasons by qualifying for the district tournament.
Burgdorf and Lipscomb look to make history this weekend in Columbus.
