The falcon varsity wrestling team put on a fantastic performance this weekend at Bay High School where the Northeast Sectional Tournament was wrestled. As has been the case this entire season- the Falcons were short handed, only bringing 9 wrestlers to the tournament but still managed to finish 4th in the 12 team tournament.
Sectional championships were claimed both by Payton Burgdorf (39-0) as he tech-falled Connor McCarty (Bay Village) by a score of 19-1. Sean Lipscomb (43-1) won his championship match by a major decision of 11-2 over Bay’s Brendan O’Doherty.
Connor Eckman took 2nd at 113 after dropping a close bout to returning state qualifier Jimmy Balazy (Padua Franciscan) by a score of 3-0.
Senior Ryan Hoffman took 3rd at 120lbs as he wrestled in his first competition in over a month as he came back from an injured shoulder.
Taking 4th was Tyler Bennett (220) and Garrett Tester (195).
Other placers were Nathan Thompson (132, 5th) And Eric Defranco (138, 6th).
The Falcons look to continue towards State this coming weekend at the Norwalk District Tournamnent.
